The first time you open the My Memories Suite, you’ll see a left and a right sidebar and the work area between them. And in addition we have a tool bar at the top. At the first glanze they seem quite similar, but they certainly have different possibilities. You use the left sidebar to browse your pictures and to access the web shop to buy new kits. The right sidebar is the control panel. Even if you can include both pictures and elements from both sidebars, the right one is where you may add effects such as shadows, bevels and even music!
With My Memories Suite you may pretty much be as artistic as you would like. You can create each page like it was a piece of art, add lots of elements and nice titles. But you can also use the automated features of the software. You can select a predesigned album, then use the autofill feature to include your images. Whether or not you use autofill you can return and change each page until you are happy with them. Everybody knows how irritating it is to get a photobook back from a printer with spelling mistakes. My Memories Suite has a dictionary with spell checker function, maybe one of the most useful features about the software.
Sometimes I am a little narrow minded. I remember reading a review of another scrapbook software in Macworld not long ago. And the person who wrote this review listed benefits and drawbacks, and one of the cons was that he couldn’t add music to the pages. And I thought….hellooo….we make scrapbooks, we don’t expect to hear Holiday with Scorpions when we open our family vacation scrapbook.
I think the idea of adding music and video to a virtual scrapbook is an excellent idea. When you have family and friends visiting, you will not have to send your printed scrapbook around the table. Instead you can put a dvd in your player and you can all see the virtual scrapbook on your tv. Have you decided to buy the program yet?
